About

Vilde Salhus Røed (b. 1981) is a visual artist living and working in Bergen, Norway

My art practice evolves around storytelling, and I often use photography as a lens and a tool for investigations. In several of my projects, I have been looking at stories in archives through photography and other 'documents', and linked personal stories to cultural-historical and socio-political backgrounds. I am fascinated by how the interplay between memory and imagination works, and how collective memory is created. This I examine by looking at how visible and invisible, true and false, stories are told and retold. Although I often work in photography, my works are just as likely to take the form of video, sound, text, books, and other technology, in addition to photographs.

I hold a master's degree in art from the Bergen School of Art and Design (2008), specializing in photography, and was, after the studies, involved in starting up a studio collective and a darkroom in Bergen. I have held a number of positions of trust in juries, committees, and boards in the art field, and in the recent years I have been working for institutions like BEK - Bergen Centre for Electronic Arts and Bergen Assembly (art triennial).

Exhibitions include Preus Museum, Entrée, Fotogalleriet, Lillehammer Art Museum, Kunsthall 3,14, Galleri Norske Grafikere, Galerie Jette Rudolph (DE), Sørlandets Kunstmuseum, Kunsthal Charlottenborg (DK) and KODE - Art Museums and Composers' Home in Bergen. Work has been acquired by the Preus Museum, Sogn og Fjordane Art Museum and Bergen University College, among others.
